WORLD'S TALLEST SLIDE POLE?
Home of the world's tallest slide pole? The all brass one-piece slide pole still in use by the
firefighters of the Williamson Fire Department has great historical significance attached to it.
By all accounts it was placed in the old firehouse on Third Avenue when it was constructed
in 1915 and remained in use there until 1988 when the structure was demolished. It was then
placed in storage where it remained for two years until it was lowered by crane through an
opening in the roof of the newly constructed facility on Fourth Avenue where it remains in
use today. It stands 36 feet, 7.5 inches tall from the tip to the base. We believe it to be one
of, if not the tallest one still in existence today. We have received verification from the
Commissioner's Office of the Fire Department of New York and the Boston Fire
Department both confirming that none of their stations have one still in use that is longer than
36'7.5".

The Williamson Fire Department issues a friendly challenge to firehouses around
the world to submit verification of a slide pole still in use that is longer than the pole
in our firehouse.
